James McDowell

James "Jim" McDowell, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2025, at Methodist Medical Center. Born January 6, 1948, in Peoria to Clarence and Martha Hackney McDowell, Jim lived a life rich in love and laughter. He was a proud 1966 graduate of Limestone High School.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Judy, his lifelong partner and best friend. Also surviving are his son, Rod McDowell; daughter, Heather McDowell; and grandchildren: Shayna McDowell, Dharin and D'ante Costic (fiancée Jessica Guevara), who brought him immense joy and pride. His memory will also be cherished by his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his loyal canine companion, Nelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Myra Stambaugh, and brother, Jerry McDowell.
Jim dedicated many years to Pabst Brewing Co. where he was also known as "Muck" before co-owning J&J Toppers with his buddy, Carl (Jeanne) Glover, for nearly 30 years.
He had a lifelong passion for fishing and loved rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. Whether he was fixing something around the house, repairing a car, or lending a hand to a friend in need, Jim was always ready to help and get his hands dirty. He never knew a stranger and his warm spirit put everyone at ease. Jim's sense of humor, unwavering support for his family, and the countless memories shared with those who knew him will be cherished always. Anyone who had the pleasure of visiting Jim and Judy's home would quickly feel like family, and would often leave with sore cheeks from smiling and laughing so much.
Here's to Jim and a life well-lived. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 1:30 pm to 7:30 pm at The American Legion, located at 4501 S. Airport Rd., Bartonville, IL 61607.
