James Lee McElroy, 88, of Byesville, passed away Wednesday (August 2, 2023) at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born January 23, 1935 in Buffalo, son of the late James D. McElroy and Reva (Reid) McElroy. Jim was raised in Buffalo and attended Buffalo High School before joining the Navy in 1952.
On Saturday March 20, 1954 he married the love of his life, Mary Joan (Lighty) McElroy. They went on to have three children: Bobby Lee McElroy, Connie Joan McElroy, and James Alan McElroy.
Jim retired from the Cambridge State Hospital after thirty years of service. He was a certified plumber and welder, which he continued to do after retirement, along with farming. Jim loved the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joan McElroy; his sister, Norma Jean Armbruster; his daughter-in-law, Traci McElroy; and two grandsons, Clint Cornette and Shawn McElroy.
Jim is survived by his children, Bobby McElroy, Connie McElroy, and James (Laverne) McElroy; four grandchildren, Jamie (Justin) Moore, Bryan (Angela) McElroy, Jorge Octavio (Nyda) Lazoya, and Michael Olivas; and many great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life for James and Mary will be held at a later date at their home.
