James Leonard “Jimmy” McGaha, 76, of Newberry, died Monday, June 16, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on October 14, 1948, he was a son of the late Ralph and Evelyn Price McGaha. Jimmy was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, a graduate of Columbia Commercial College and retired from Allied Chemical. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and the National Rifle Association. His passion was restoring old cars.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sherry Turner McGaha; a daughter, Marlena Sherry McGaha of Newberry; a son, James Kurt McGaha of Newberry; a sister, Linda McGaha Shealey of West Columbia; a brother, Johnny Raymond McGaha of Newberry and a grandson, Bryson Harmon McGaha. He was predeceased by a sister, Teena Marie McGaha and a brother, Stevie Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 20, 2025 at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Chris Garrison. Burial with military honors will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of Marlena McGaha, 1025 Hillbrook Lane and will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be James Robert Bouknight, Anthony Burton Bouknight, Charles P. Jeremias, David Samuel Gibson, Jr., James R. Sheppard and David Samuel Gibson, Sr.
