James McIlwain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes - Michels & Lundquist Chapel on Oct. 17, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

James E. McIlwain, III "Chip", 60 years old of New Port Richey, FL passed away
peacefully on October 16, 2025 at his father's home in Trinity, FL.
Chip was born in Atlanta, GA but his family moved many times for USAF duty while he
was growing up. The majority of his adult life was spent in New Tampa where he lived
with his parents and sister.
One of his joys in life was his job. Chip began his training for dental instrument
sterilization during high school. He worked in the family business since 1978. He rarely
missed a day of work and celebrated every day there with his coworkers.
Chip was a valued member of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church, serving as an acolyte
and also worked in the kitchen serving breakfast after services.
Chip loved his sports teams. His favorite college football team was FSU, and all
Champa Bay teams. If he met you, then you were his friend. As a friend, he loved your
favorite teams, too. Yes, he even liked the Gators when they were not playing FSU. If
he wasn't watching a game, chances are he was fishing.
Chip is survived by his father, Dr. Jim McIlwain, sister, Dr. Leigh Ann McIlwain
Chiaramonte, brother-in-law Dr. Michael Chiaramonte, nephews Nicholas and Davis
Chiaramonte, niece Genevieve Chiaramonte and Stella his golden retriever.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at St. Catherine of
Alexandria Episcopal Church, 502 Druid Hills Rd, Temple Terrace, FL at 2pm followed
by a reception. Please wear your favorite sport team jersey!

Dad Jaime and family,
We are saddened to hear that Chips is resting at the bosom of our Lord Almighty...
From the DR we wish you peace and comfort during this challenging process...
Our hearts goes out to you and we have you in our prayers...
Chips will always be remembered as the happiest and funniest one during the dental clinics at Baní. Talk alone of Chips throwing balloons out to children from the bus or truck...
Chips, you will always be remembered and loved...
