James McIntire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory on Feb. 26, 2026.
James Motes McIntire passed away on February 25, 2026, at the age of 84. Known for his sharp wit, generous humor, love of history and dialect studies and lifelong intellectual curiosity, he enriched the lives of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jim was born in Wilmington, North Carolina and, although he moved to Birmingham, Alabama as a child, his heart remained in the Tar Heel state. He attended the University of Alabama and was always proud of the fact that he started at Alabama the year after Bear Bryant became the head coach. Jim later graduated from Birmingham Southern College, where he began his career as bursar. He moved to Georgia to be closer to the coast and was chief accountant at Georgia Southern College.

Jim made his move into public accounting when he left Georgia Southern to set up accounting systems for an accounting firm in Brunswick, Georgia. It was there that he discovered he was not really meant to be an accountant but was a computer programmer at heart.

Jim moved to Atlanta in 1980, where he met Robin Antonius, his wife of 44 years. They soon settled in Roswell and found it to be an ideal community to raise their family.

Music was one of Jim's greatest passions, particularly classical music and jazz, with a little country music thrown into the mix. He sang with several choral ensembles, but singing barber shop harmony was his favorite.

Jim will be remembered for his humor, deep love of learning, and his love of family, country, Rotary, ancestry and anything Scottish.

Jim first joined Rotary while he was in Brunswick and was later a member of the Rotary Clubs of Alpharetta and Roswell. He treasured the friends he made and the projects he participated in and frequently praised the shared values of Rotary around the world.

One of the great pleasures of Jim's life was his involvement with the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member for many years and served as President of the Piedmont Chapter.

He also was very proud of his Scottish heritage and enjoyed being a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Atlanta, an organization dedicated to preserving Scottish heritage and tradition in Atlanta.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Robert McIntire and Mabel Box McIntire, as well as his sister Barbara McDowell. He is survived by his wife, Robin; his stepson Sean Dodrill (Maryi), and his grandchildren, Dylan Dodrill and Cayden and Mason Burnside.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075. A private family service and burial is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust (CART) at cartfund.org or through the Rotary Club of Alpharetta.
