James Andrew "Andy" McKamie won life's race and fell into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 11, 2022. Born in Austin, TX on November 14, 1955 to Herbert Wayne McKamie Sr. and Zelna Ione McKamie, he lived a life full of love and service to others, none more than his family. Wayne Sr.'s job caused the family to relocate numerous times throughout early childhood but he called the Dallas area "home" from the fall of '65 through the end of high school. His life changed in 1969, when he was in 8th grade and Rhonda Joy McClure walked into his
life. After breaking his neck the following year in a 9th grade football game, he showed his grit and determination, characteristics used to describe him the rest of his days. From February 12, 1971 to his final day on this side of Heaven, Andy and Rhonda built a life together many others
only dream about.
After graduating from Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas in 1974, Andy earned a baseball scholarship to Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK. Rhonda followed him to Bethany where they began to build their life together. Three years later, on May 21, 1977, Andy
married his "Rhonda Joy" in Dallas at Dallas First Church of the Nazarene. After being accepted into dental school at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry a year early, he left SNU to start working towards serving the community by making smiles a little brighter by not only his
artistry, but also his generosity and kindness. In the spring of 1982, Andy purchased a private dental practice, which he used as his place of ministry, spreading the love of Jesus to everyone who walked through his door. He served the Bethany community and surrounding
areas for almost 40 years, only using 3 sick days in those 40 years. He was set to retire on February 1, 2022.
Although Andy loved dentistry, serving others through his work, and leading his team, his favorite team to lead was his family. He became "Dad" in October, 1982 when his first of two sons, Joshua Andrew, was born. Only fourteen months later, his second son, Chadwick Austin, was born in December, 1983. Together, Andy and Rhonda showed their boys what it meant to be "husband and wife" as their love was different, for all the right reasons. They lived out their covenant until the very end and their boys and their families benefited the most from the daily witnessing of their love and affection. His family was his pride and joy, including his two daughters-in-law, Aubree and Kendall. He loved his girls as his own and loved creating memories with them whether it be triple dates, vacations, or going over the top with Christmas present displays. In 2013, he took on the new title of "Pop" when the first two of his four grandkids were born.
As Pop, he was everything you could ever dream of for his grandchildren. His world stopped when they entered the room and everything revolved around the "babies." Rarely telling them "no," he would take them on walks around the neighborhood, play outside regardless of the weather, roll around on the floor, sit and color, watch their favorite shows, or sit with them at the kids table just to be with them. He was truly the best Pop in every sense of the word. He will be missed by all, but especially by his wife of almost 45 years, his boys and their wives, and the babies that called him "Pop."
Andy was preceded in death by his Dad and Mom, Herbert Wayne Sr. and Zelna Ione; and sister, Pamela Sue McKamie. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Joy; his sons, Joshua Andrew and wife Aubree, and Chadwick Austin and wife Kendall; his grandkids, Ronan James, Emery Lynn, Cohen Andrew, and Darby Lou; his brothers, Herbert Wayne McKamie, Jr. and wife Pam, and Michael Scott; and many nieces and nephews.
Over his last 5 years, Andy became very passionate about getting the Word of God out to all nations, in every language.
