Marilyn was a lifelong resident of the area, born in her family’s farmhouse, who dedicated her life to her family. Her greatest joy was watching her children grow into wonderful Christian adults, blessing her with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn enjoyed a rewarding career as a Bank Teller for 31 years at State Bank of Fredonia and served as a city commissioner for the City of Fredonia. She and her late husband Henry King were members of the Neodesha Nazarene Church and after moving to Independence they joined the Independence Nazarene Church.
Marilyn was known for her warmth and hospitality. She loved to cook and bake, delighting family and friends with her famous chicken noodles, vegetable soup, lemon bread and lemon pies. Her hands were equally skilled in sewing, as she frequently cross-stitched and embroidered tea towels, baby blankets and homemade bears.
A graduate of the Fredonia High School Class of 1954, she furthered her education at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Henry. She was united in marriage to Henry King Jr. on August 10, 1956, in Neodesha Kansas. They were married for 64 years, until Henry's passing on May 29, 2021.
Marilyn’s legacy of love, kindness and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Since Henry’s passing, Marilyn continued the tradition she and Henry started, by being loving Christian examples of biblical parenting and grandparenting. Their influence and dedication will continue to live on through future generations.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Henry; her parents, Olin and Geneva (Upshaw) Kauth; and her brother, Richard Kauth. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Brad and Deb King, Cheryl and Kevin Deeds, Darrin and Jani King, and Janna and Jerald Rinck.
