James Daniel McPartlan, beloved father, brother and friend, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his children. "Jim" lived his almost sixty-one years of life by the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do to you."
Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jim was the oldest of four boys and predeceased by his parents, Hugh F. McPartlan and Helen McDermott. Jim cherished his Brooklyn upbringing and spoke fondly of nostalgic summers on Coney Island. Jim's elementary education at St. Ephrem's was fundamental in his Irish Catholic Faith. A trip to the Motherland with his Grandma Suzie further instilled Jim's love for his heritage, faith and family.
Jim was a good man and well-liked by all. In addition to being Class President of Clarkstown HS South, Jim was awarded the Congressional Medal of Merit for his outstanding work in both academia and service. Jimmy worked hard in private and smiled in public, going on to form life-long friendships during his collegiate years at Binghamton University. Those mentors who acknowledged Jim's potential opened doors for him, leading to a long and successful career in Banking. After the culmination of his position as Managing Partner of WestLB, James devoted his life to service, serving as a Board Member of Catholic Charities. Jim always gave thanks to God for his talents and was charitable beyond measure. He was particularly moved by his work with the Furniture Ministry and assisted innumerable families in-need. He proudly maintained this role until his final days.
James shared a beautiful 30-year marriage with Wendy Hauser. Together, they raised two wonderful children, James Daniel II and Katherine. Of all his accomplishments, Jim's proudest was fathering his two children. He instilled his impenetrable faith in them, which remained unwavering amidst his ALS diagnosis. During this time, Jim was especially grateful for his family and friends' sharing of great memories and the special impact he had on their lives.
"I don't want sadness. Only joy," were some of Jim's final thoughts. All are welcome to join in the celebration of the great life of Jimmy McPartlan. A wake will be held on Thursday Evening (April 24) from 4 to 8 P.M. at Collin's Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held the next morning (Friday, April 25) at Saint Matthew Church in Norwalk at 10 A.M., followed by burial at Saint John Cemetery down the road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities of Fairfield County's Fresh Start Furniture, Wheel It Forward, or Waveny Life Care are appreciated. These organizations treated Jimmy with great care.
"So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, "Hail!" And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

Dear Wendy,
My condolences to you and your family. Jim was my boss at WestLB in London so many years ago. He was such an inspirational and supportive role model. We were birthday buddies sharing the same birthday across the pond so every year we email birthday wishes on May 19th. I thought it was strange this year as he didn´t reply so I googled and stumbled onto his obituary. My heartfelt condolences and will cherish my fond memories of Jim´s time on Earth. All the best, Caren Chang

Dear Wendy, JD, and Katherine,

I knew Jim from our children's wonderful time at St. Aloysius School together. I'll always remember his kindness and his sense of humor. More recently, I would see him at daily mass, sitting near the front row, always in deep prayer. How beautiful it was to see his children standing beside him at daily mass in his final weeks. His faith was clearly unwavering until the end. I'm sure Our Lord greeted him with these words: "Well done my good and faithful servant. Well done."

God bless you all in the days ahead. May you be comforted by the same faith he so wholeheartedly embraced, and be joyful in the knowledge that you will one day see him again.

and at Binghamton. He was the best of us.
