James E. Meyer, Jr., age 60, of North Plainfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey.

Born in Jersey City, James was raised in North Plainfield and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from North Plainfield High School, carrying with him the values of community, hard work, and loyalty that he lived by every day.

James made his living most recently as an exterminator for Mantis in North Plainfield, NJ. He was known for his dedication to his work, his friendly interactions with customers, and his commitment to doing the job well.

A devout man of faith, James was a longtime member of Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield. His faith was a grounding force in his life, informing both his kindness toward others and his deep sense of gratitude.

James had two Siberian Huskies that he adored. They were his constant companions and brought him endless joy. He also pursued his passion for Jeeps, especially his four-door CJ, relishing the ruggedness of rock crawling and the freedom of off-road adventures. In addition, he was an avid sports fan, cheering wholeheartedly for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, always following their seasons with enthusiasm.

He was predeceased earlier this year by his father, James E. Meyer, Sr. He is survived by his loving mother, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Meyer; his siblings, Robert Meyer and his wife Denise and Michele Smego and her husband Andrew; nephews Robert Meyer and Michael Smego; niece Jenna Smego; three great nephews; and many cousins, all of whom will deeply miss his presence.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Watchung Avenue in North Plainfield. Cremation services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Husky House, Inc., an organization dedicated to the rescue, care, sheltering, and rehoming of abandoned Siberian Huskies and other dogs in need. Husky House runs entirely on charitable contributions. Donations may be mailed to: Husky House, 391 Route 34, Matawan, NJ 07747 or made online at HuskyHouse.org.

James will be remembered for his warm heart, his laughter, his love of adventure, and his generosity of spirit. May he rest in peace, and may his memory live on in the lives he touched.
