In Loving Memory of James Woodrow Miles

James Woodrow Miles -known affectionately to many as Jim, Woody, or Poppa -passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, just shy of his 78th birthday. Born on a leap day, February 29, 1948, Jim lived a life full of dedication, service, and love that touched all who knew him.

A Dedicated Family Man and Educator

Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He now joins the love of his life, his wife, Pamela Gayle Hurst Miles, who preceded him in death. His life was also preceded by his mother, Carolyn Ann Tarrant Gorman, his father, James Woodrow Miles Sr., his stepfather, William Earl Gorman, and his wife's beloved twin sister, Patricia Ann Wade.

He leaves behind his two devoted sons: James Joseph "J.J." Miles and his wife, Robin L. Miles, and Carey Patrick Miles. Jim's legacy of love continues through his two cherished grandchildren, Abigayle Morgan Miles and James Ethan Miles. He is also survived by three siblings, several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

A highlight of Jim's life was his career as an Elementary School Teacher. He adored his job and his passion for education touched the lives of countless students. He was a lifelong learner, earning his Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College, his Master's degree from Mercer University, and his Education Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial College.

Service, Friendship, and Community

Jim was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, having bravely served his country in the Vietnam War. His commitment to service was a defining characteristic of his life.

He treasured the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life, including those from his years of teaching, his time in school, and his community at church -all of whom were important parts of his journey.

He also cherished the enduring bond he shared with one of his closest friends, Douglas Dale Wade. Jim's family circle extended to include Dale and Pat's children, Chris, Jessica, and Melissa, along with their spouses and children, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Inurnment and Donations

Jim will be inurned at his final resting place alongside his beloved bride, Pam, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The inurnment service is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 11:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the memory of Pam and Jim Miles to the Alzheimer's Association.
