On Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, Jim left us to go to be with Jesus. He had been ill for several months and finally we knew that nothing more could be done. He passed exactly as he wanted. He prayed that when the Lord was ready to bring him home that it would be peaceful, quiet, and calm. His prayers were answered.
Jim is survived by his wife of forty six years, Lorraine, his stepsons, Daniel Dinwiddie, and Brian Dinwiddie. He leaves six grandchildren, Kimberly, Kelly, Jared, Brady, Isabelle, and Tyler. He has one great granddaughter Addison. He leaves his sisters, Shirley Stewart, Glenda Meyers, and Ruth Storey. He also leaves eleven nieces and nephews.
In 2006, Jim had a heart transplant at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. After a year, we were able to meet his donor family, meeting them changed our lives forever. We are very close and we have come to know them as family. Within three months Jim went back to work for the U.S. Forest Service in Fire Cache on Airport Road in Redding. He was known as the "Back bone" because of his knowledge and willingness to help his co-workers.
Jim was well read. He was interested and involved in many activities. His main love was gardening. He had been a counselor at juvenile hall, he set up an agricultural program for the youth, on three acres, they were able to grow enough produce to supply the jail, Crystal Creek, and the juvenile hall. Gardening was a life long love for Jim.
He also loved taking his kayak out to Whiskeytown and to fish out there. Jim was a man who was well respected. He was quiet and polite to a fault with everyone he met. He had a wicked sense of humor that had us rolling on the floor over his antics.
We will cherish and love him for the rest of our lives.
