James Thomas “Jim” Mitchell, 86, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
He was born September 8, 1939, in Osage City, Kansas, the son of Clarence George and Francis Ellen (Bean) Mitchell. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War until being honorably discharged.
Jim was employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for over 40 years, until retiring.
He was a member of Seward Avenue Baptist Church and Local #307 Rubbers Workers Union in Topeka.
Jim married Darlene Vivian Longhofer on November 1, 1984 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two sons, Gregory M. (Joanne) Mitchell and Patric S. (Lori) Mitchell, all of Topeka; and two grandchildren, Brandon (Michelle) Mitchell and Amy (Jesse) Shotts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daniel Mitchell; his daughter, Ann Mitchell; his brother, Bud Mitchell and his two sisters, Shirley Monthey and Sharon Tipton.
Jim loved studying the bible and enjoyed Sprint Car Racing.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at Parker-Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. A graveside service will follow Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Half-Day Cemetery, Elmont, KS.
