James Mitchell Sr. of Steubenville, OH, 54, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 in Youngstown, OH.

He was born on October 12, 1971 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of Opcha (Kang) Davis of Steubenville, OH, formerly of Korea and the late Ruel Mitchell.

James was a proud 1990 graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School. Following graduation, he began working in the mailroom and delivering newspapers for the Herald Star and the Weirton Daily Times. Throughout the years, he also dedicated himself to janitorial and security services, always taking pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.

James had a deep love for sports, especially football and basketball. He enjoyed playing his numbers and scratch-offs, always hopeful for a big win. Music was one of his greatest joys. He had a vibrant personality and was often the life of the party, singing random songs and bringing laughter and energy wherever he went. His presence could light up any room, and he will be remembered for his warm spirit, sense of humor, and love for having a good time. He loved to shoot pool with his friends. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his father, James was preceded in death by his step father, Manuel Davis.

In addition to his mother, James is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jenni Mitchell, six children, James Mitchell Jr, Brandon Mitchell, Ra'Shelle Anderson, Derek Mitchell, Shantell Mitchell and her husband, Kenar McKnight and Aaliyah Mitchell, five grandchildren, Daimear Mitchell, Isla Anderson, Nessiah Mitchell, Xander Anderson and Saige Anderson, a best friends that was like a brother, George Hazlett, four siblings, Bomtea Mitchell and his wife, Tracy, Ruel Mitchell and Wyatt Mitchell and his wife, Katrina and Robert Mitchell and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, February 17, 2029 from Noon until 2:00 PM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717.
