James Charles Morrison, Jr. age 79, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023. He was born February 15,1944 in Bruce, Florida to James Charles Morrison, Sr. and Jennie Colia Burnham Morrison. Charles was a lifelong resident of Bruce, Florida.
He was Christian by faith and a member of Bruce Assembly of God in Bruce, Florida, where he previously served as a minister of the church. He also spent time preaching and serving in churches in Ebro and Vernon, Florida. Charles preached with conviction and power from a tough life testimony and had a way of capturing his audience with his phrase "Thank about it!"
Attending Bruce School, Charles later worked a career in construction and the iron industry as a union iron worker, working out of Ironworkers Union Local 798 of Semmes, Alabama. Following his father's footsteps, he spent many years as the foreman over the ironworkers building and maintaining the Farley Nuclear plant in Ashford, Alabama.
Charles was an avid fisherman who spent all the free time he could in the waters around Walton county "making 'em bite." He loved hunting, wood working, and gospel music, and Charles could play the guitar. He was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing. A great carpenter as well, he remodeled his family's home. Charles enjoyed making people laugh. He loved a good joke and could tell them with a straight face.
During his final years, Charles was incarcerated in Florida. He spent his time serving the Lord, ministering to those who were with him, and mentoring young men who would be released. The theme of his message was "Holding On." He never backed down from life no matter what came his way.
Charles was preceded in death by his father; mother; son, Jimmy Carl Morrison; and brother, Royce Morrison, Jr.
Charles is survived by his children, Kimberly Dawn Morrison of Ponce de Leon, Florida; Joseph Franklin Morrison and wife, Michelle, of Cropwell, Alabama; Theresa Glidewell and husband, Danny, of Paxton, Florida; Jacob Charles Morrison and wife, Mendy, of Mossy Head, Florida; one brother, Larry O. Morrison and wife, Deborah, of Bruce, Florida; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
A celebration of Charles' life will be held Friday, March 24, 2023, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Bruce Assembly of God, 133 Church Road, Bruce, Florida 32455, with Reverend Royce M. Morrison, Jr. officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the church. A private committal service will be held at Dead River Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity serving those incarcerated.
Those serving as pallbearers will be: Joseph Morrison, Jacob Morrison, Isaac Morrison, Truman Morrison, Sampson Morrison and Fisher Morrison.
