James "JIM" Gregory Mortach, 61, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away on March 22, 2026. Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 9, 1964, to James Charles and Iris Mary Mortach (Bloomfield). Jim and his lifelong partner, Sharon Saxon, made their home in Amherst. Jim was employed as a metrologist and quality control technician for Meriam Process Technologies (A Western Enterprises company) in Cleveland, Ohio for 32 years. He also proudly served his country for a total of 8 years as a Sergeant in the United States Army.
Jim was a devoted Christian man and a compassionate animal lover who supported ASPCA and PETA with monthly contributions. He enjoyed wildlife and was always concerned about the welfare of the animals both indoors and out. He and Sharon shared a love of bird watching and owned a Quaker Parrot named Cuddles, along with their beloved cats, Boy and Marble.
An avid reader of history and religion, Jim was also a dedicated Cleveland sports fan, especially of the Browns and the Guardians. He and Sharon enjoyed watching the games together and cherished time spent with family, including nieces, nephews, and his grand-nephew Grayson. Family was very important to them.
Jim will be remembered as a very generous and supportive man, that would help anyone in a time of need.
Jim is survived by his brother Steven Daniel Mortach {Melissa) Mortach of Akron, Ohio; uncle, David Mortach of North Olmstead, Ohio; stepmother, Linda Mortach of Brooklyn, Ohio; nephew Noah Visnyai (Mortach); nieces, Emily (Javier) Galindo and Lillian "Lunar" Mortach; great-nephew, Grayson Mortach-Galindo; cousins, David Mortach of Avon, Ohio, Michael Mortach of Old Brooklyn, Ohio, and Thomas Mortach of Bedford, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his lifelong partner Sharon Saxon (December 2025); his parents, James and Iris Mortach; brother, Gary Morrill; sisters, Lori Moore and Theresa Thompson; nephew Shawn Moore; niece, Joyce Moore; uncles, Thomas and George Mortach; aunt, Kathy; paternal grandparents, James Mortach and Evelyn Reese; maternal grandparents Earsel Bloomfield and Lillian Hutchinson.
Funeral Services will be held on April 2, 2026, with a visitation from 11am-1pm at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035, followed by a procession to the cemetery, Resthaven Memory Gardens at 3700 Center Road in Avon, Ohio. There, at 2 p.m., military honors will be rendered, and a graveside service officiated by Rev Steven D. Mortach, before James will be laid to rest.
