James E. Motes, a beacon of light and laughter, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Huntsville, AL, at the venerable age of 93. Born on May 22, 1932, James lived a life marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community, leaving behind a legacy of joy and generosity that will be cherished eternally.
James's early years were a prelude to a life rich in love and humor. His infectious laughter and selfless nature were the cornerstones upon which he built an abundant life. As a family man, James was the epitome of a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a guiding star to his children, Judy and Frank, Jimmy and Jan, and Jeff and Angie, who will carry forward his wisdom and kindness. His grandchildren, David, Daniel, Jenny, Brittany, and Emily, were the recipients of his playful spirit and endless support, and his eleven great-grandchildren, along with four great-great-grandchildren, were blessed to know their 'Great-Great-Grandpa James' as a living example of unconditional love.
James's professional life was as varied as it was long, with a career spanning several industries, always with the common thread of serving others with a smile. Even in retirement, James never ceased to seek out ways to make others laugh and feel loved, whether through volunteering, storytelling, or simply being a friend to all. His selflessness was a trait that resonated deeply within the hearts of those who knew him, and it is this quality that will be remembered most fondly.
Predeceased by his cherished wife of 60 years, James's reunion with her is a comfort to those he leaves behind. Together, they shared a journey of unwavering partnership and mutual devotion, setting an example for their family that will continue to guide them through the years.
James will be remembered as the man who could light up any room with his humor, who gave selflessly without a second thought, and whose love for his family was as deep as it was boundless. He was a man of integrity, warmth, and laughter, whose presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to James E. Motes, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his funny, loving, and selfless nature. We are comforted by the knowledge that his spirit will continue to watch over us, guiding us with the same gentle hand he used to nurture and protect us in life.
In honoring James's life, we celebrate the joy he brought into the world and the immeasurable impact he had on his family and community. His memory will forever be a beacon of love and laughter, shining brightly in the stories we will continue to tell and in the lives of those he loved so dearly.
