Belvin "Gator" Motes, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 68 in Vero Beach, Florida. Born on January 27, 1957, in Bonilla, Arkansas, Gator was a man of exceptional character, known for his wisdom, selflessness, and thoughtfulness.
Gator's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Cheryl Collins, for 40 years, and a loving father to his children, Cheryl Lynn Collins, Angel Lynn Motes, Brian John-Christopher Alsager, Aidan Alsager, Austin Sean-Thomas Alsager, Jason Chandler-Jordan Alsager, and the late Sylvia Faith-Ann Alsager. His legacy continues through his 16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, each of whom he adored deeply.
Gator's siblings, Darrel Motes, the late Roy Motes, the late Leon Motes, the late Wayne Motes, Terry Motes, Catherine Day, Regina Motes, Darlene Fields, Theresa Seebo, and the late Linda Tindal, will remember him for his unwavering support and the strong bonds he maintained with them throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Lester Leroy Motes and the late Betty Ines Gulff Motes.
Professionally, Gator was respected as an accomplished automotive mechanic. His hands were skilled, and his knowledge was vast, earning him the trust and friendship of many in the industry. His involvement in various associations within his field showcased his commitment to his craft and his desire to contribute positively to the community.
Beyond his work, Gator's greatest joy was found in the simple moments spent with his family. He had a gift for making each gathering memorable, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness. His interests extended to the outdoors, where he often shared his love for nature with his children and grandchildren, instilling in them the same appreciation he held for the world around him.
To know Gator was to experience a life enriched by his generosity and kindness. His guidance was sought by many, and his willingness to help others was a hallmark of his personality. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will carry forward the lessons he imparted and the memories they created together.
As we say goodbye to Belvin "Gator" Motes, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His spirit will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the love he left behind. Gator's journey through life was a remarkable one, and though he will be greatly missed, the essence of who he was will forever remain a part of those who loved him.
