Ellen Booker was born in Quincy, FL on July 28, 1933 to the late Roosevelt and Lillie Mae Cooper. Ellen's life began in Quincy, FL. She was the middle of three children, growing up on a 30-acre farm her childhood was one of hard work and resilience. Ellen's family traveled back and forth from Quincy to Fort Pierce doing agriculture work. Ellen always knew that life was a journey of dedication as she had to walk five miles just to attend school. It paid off, due to the fact that Ellen was a brilliant student who excelled in math and dreamed of becoming a nurse or teacher. At the age of fifteen, Ellen moved to Fort Pierce FL, where she met Alfred Booker Sr. By the time she turned sixteen, she and Alfred were married.
As Ellen grew older, she changed her occupation to doing what she loved best, "cooking." This passion led to her landing a job working in the cafeteria at Shamrock Village on Hutchinson Island. After three years, she went on to be employed as a short order cook for the Post House Cafeteria at Greyhound Bus Station for nineteen years, until their final closing. Furthermore, Ellen's journey took her to Sunshine Parkway on Florida's Turnpike for several years during this time, she attended night school where she earned her GED. In conclusion, Ellen was hired by the St. Lucie School District at Lincoln Park Academy as a Baker in the cafeteria up until her retirement. Beyond her professional life, Ellen's true devotion was to her faith.
Ellen received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1977. She began going to church services in the home of James and Patricia Brown. In September of 1981, Ellen became a pioneer member of Miracle Prayer Temple Incorporated under the leadership of Apostle James H. & Pastor Patricia A. Brown. Ellen loved her leaders Apostle James & Pastor Patricia Brown and her church family dearly.
Ellen was the first and only church mother for 44 years. Here she was affectionally known as "Mother" or "Mother Booker." Mother was faithful and honored God by serving His people wholeheartedly. She prepared Holy Communion every first Sunday for many years, cleaned the church weekly, and was a loyal Board member. In her words, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." Mother's dedication to service led her to become involved in several church auxiliaries. One of her assignments was the Gideonites Missionary Ministry. She was gifted in winning lost souls for Christ, ministering to the needs of people and helping to enhance spiritual growth. Another assignment involved Mother's participation in the Leegirthia Circle Senior Ministry where she supported the church in various capacities. Mother was a profound prayer warrior who loved praying for people from all walks of life. This assignment was integral to her role, therefore being a part of the Intercessory Prayer team. She would meet at church every Friday morning at 6:00 am to pray. Ellen was also a student of the word of God who practiced doing the will of her Father in heaven; hence, she would quote scriptures verbatim. Her deep knowledge of the Bible and her love for God was a guiding light to everyone she knew. Ellen was graced with wisdom and lived a life of purpose.
