Redetha "Dee" Banfield, a beacon of selflessness, generosity, and love, left us to join her heavenly family on September 23, 2025. Born on February 6, 1936, in Merritt Island, Florida, Dee's radiant spirit blessed this world for an impressive 89 years. Fort Pierce, Florida, the town she called home for over six decades, was the setting of her peaceful passing.

Dee, a proud graduate of Dan McCarty High School's class of 1954, was a lifelong learner whose wisdom and wit shone brightly in all her endeavors. Her commitment to her community was evident through her many decades of service at both The Exchange and then H & S Citrus Packing House, where her work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting mark. Dee was also a member of the southern Baptist community.

Her family, the heart of her world, includes her beloved son Aaron "Tater" Melton, stepdaughter Melanie Wright, her cherished grandchildren, and adoring great-grandchildren. Each of them reflecting Dee's boundless love and nurturing spirit.

Dee's zest for life was contagious. Her interests were as diverse as they were delightful. She reveled in the joy of taking cruises! Camping trips and ATV rides were adventures that spoke to her soul, as did the simple pleasure of front porch sitting at her home of more than 60 years - a testament to her love for the tranquility of nature and the comfort of home.

An artist at heart, Dee wielded her crochet hooks like a master, creating intricate patterns that warmed the hearts and laps of those she loved. Her baking was legendary, especially her cakes, which were a sweet embodiment of her care for others. Gardening and playing cards were some of her favorite pastimes, especially red roses and Gin Rummy.

Dee's thrifting adventures were treasure hunts; each find a story waiting to be told. Her compassion extended to all creatures, with a special place in her heart for the many animals she rescued over the years.

Dee's legacy is one of unwavering love and kindness. She touched lives in profound ways, and her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth may have ended, but the light she cast will continue to shine in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Dee's story is not one of sorrow, but a beautiful tale of a life well-lived and well-loved.

A graveside service will be held at White City Cemetery soon. Dates will be provided once they are provided to us later next week.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dogs and Cats Forever and/or your local Humane Society in Dee's honor.
