It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda L. Motes, a beloved member of the Salitpa community, who left this world peacefully on September 22, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 28, 1939 in Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, Glenda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
Glenda was a cherished member of River Hill Baptist Church, where she joyfully sang in the choir and dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her love for music was evident, and her voice filled the hearts of many with joy.
Professionally, Glenda contributed her skills to several prominent companies, including H.R. Davies, Allied Paper, Salt Springs Academy, and Technical Engineering & Construction (TEC). Her true passion lay in her family and home. Known for her talent in sewing, she lovingly made many dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, each stitch infused with her love. Her home was a haven of hospitality, where she took great delight in hosting gatherings and entertaining friends and family. She believed that every porch should have a swing, a testament to her belief in the simple joys of life and the importance of family and community.
Glenda was not only a supportive partner to her husband, Thomas Motes, Sr., but also his steadfast right hand, partnering with him to build a strong, God-fearing family and successful business.
Glenda is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Thomas J. Motes, Sr.; children, David (Elizabeth) Motes, Kenny Motes, Lisa (Starlin) Lanier, Tammie Clarke, Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" (Donna) Motes, Carol Camp, Martha (Kevin) Gramelspacher, Jim Motes, and Theresa (Ian) Burge; grandchildren, Matthew, Nathanael, Sarah, Daniel, Tim, David, Michael, Karen, Robert, Kelly, Kenneth, Blake, Adam, Ben, Jonathan, Alex, Jeneane, Skylar, Melissa, Steven, Cody, Kevin, T.J., Tyler, Zack, Joseph, Christopher, Amerie, Adrianna, Paul, Elise, Brandon, Ethan, Ladd, Mary Margaret, Eli, Michelle, and David Earl; siblings, Janet Forrest and Norma Fury; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, who will carry on her legacy of love and kindness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elie Joseph Ledet and Velma Theresa Hebert Ledet; siblings, Sherry McQueen, Lois Dupuy, and Debbie Gould; daughter, Barbara (Earl) Simmons; son-in-law, Joseph Camp; daughter-in-law, Alice Motes; and grandson, Dennis Turgun.
The community is invited to join us in celebrating Glenda's life. A public visitation will be held at River Hill Baptist Church on September 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Glenda will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service.
As we remember Glenda, let us cherish the memories of her warm smile, gentle spirit, and the love she shared so freely. She will be profoundly missed but will forever remain in our hearts. We take great solace in the hope of reuniting with her in Heaven with Christ one day (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).
