With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Wendell Pruitt, who left us peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on November 6, 1950, Gary lived a life filled with purpose, adventure, and compassion. He resided in Jackson, where he made an indelible mark on his community as a dedicated real estate broker and the owner of Pruitt Appraisal Services and Pruitt Reality.
Gary's journey began in Clarke County, where he graduated from Clarke County High School in 1969. He went on to earn his Master's Degree in Biology/Environmental Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. His early career as the District Manager of the East County Water Control District in Lehigh Acres, Florida, showcased his commitment to environmental stewardship.
Throughout his 27 years in real estate, Gary proudly served Clarke County, helping families find their dream homes and providing expert appraisal services. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, he was known for his kindness and generosity, quietly supporting various programs and families in need.
Gary was not just dedicated to his work; he was passionate about life. An Eagle Scout in his youth, he had a love for adventure, often flying his beloved Cessna 182 on excursions with Diane, his cherished wife, and their friends. He was a skilled woodworker and antiquing enthusiast, crafting beautiful pieces that will be treasured by family and friends for generations. He loved to travel, with cruises serving as his favorite escape, where he would indulge his passion for scuba diving and snorkeling, exploring the beauty beneath the waves.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Diane Pruitt, whose partnership brought joy and laughter into their lives. Together, they shared a bond of love and adventure that will forever be remembered. Also his children, Stephanie Ruth Pruitt, Michelle Nicole (Dale) Root, and Jessica Dawn (Adam) LaBarge; stepchildren, Alison Renee Byrd and Joshua Adam (Ashley) Rotch; grandchildren, Janie Isabella Best, Brody Tayte Byrd, Richard Jackson Rotch and Baby LaBarge expected soon; brother, Ronnie (Sandra) Pruitt; nieces, Heidi (Chris) Newton and Wendy (Glen) Padgett; and a host of dear friends and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Cecil and Frances Orlana Pruitt.
We invite all who knew Gary to join us as we celebrate his remarkable life. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the First Baptist Church of Jackson, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
