James Munos, of Killeen, affectionately known to those closest to him as "Pappy," passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2025, in Harker Heights, Texas, at the age of 73. Born on October 2, 1951, in Temple, Texas, James lived a life full of love, dedication, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to touch many hearts.

A devoted father and grandfather, James cherished his family above all else. He married his first love, Dora Alcozer, on March 31, 1989. Their lives aligned beautifully later in life, creating a bond that many admired. Together, they raised a loving family that included his sons, Adrian Neal Munos of Temple and Thomas Leija of Belton, as well as his daughters Paula Leija of Maryland and Christina Leija of Belton. His pride was evident in the ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, who filled his life with joy and laughter. Nothing brought him more happiness than cheering for them at their activities, often donning his signature enthusiasm and giving each family member a special nickname, making every moment uniquely cherished.

James dedicated over 15 years to working for the Belton Independent School District (BISD), where his commitment to enriching the lives of children was evident. He also volunteered at Saint Mary's Catholic School, where he actively helped with the Falcon Care after-school program, always arriving early with a smile and a willingness to support both staff and students. His organized nature was complemented by a passion for cleanliness and order, which he applied not just at home but also in ensuring the safety and comfort of those attending mass at Christ The King Catholic Church, where he diligently sat with Dora in the back pew, ever-watchful and ready to lend a hand.

In addition to his professional achievements, James took great pride in coaching his sons in various sports, igniting a deep passion for helping children grow and succeed. His dedication to his family and community was interwoven with his engaging personality, characterized by warmth, kindness, and an unwavering love for life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos Munos Sr. and Mary Lucy Munos Garcia, and his brother, Santos "Sandy" Munos Jr.

Services to celebrate James's life will be held at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Belton, Texas, beginning with visitation on September 4, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass will be held the following day, September 5, 2025, at 1:30 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple, with burial to follow at North Belton Cemetery at 3:00 PM.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School.

He will be missed dearly but will always be remembered for his laughter, his unwavering support, and the profound impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
