Obituary

James Holly Murr, age 64, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, GA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, September 13. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Survivors include: his son, Drew Murr (Allison) of Roanoke; his mother, Gwendolyn Cook Murr of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Logan Murr, Luke Murr and Kynleigh Murr, all of Roanoke; a brother, Ben Murr (Belinda) of Roanoke; a half sister, Mary Murr Mims of Albuquerque, NM; two nieces, Jasmine Murr of Roanoke and Harli Murr (TC) of Woodland; nephew, Garth Murr (Brittany) of Woodland; and four great nieces.

A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Murr was born on January 20, 1961, the son of Jim and Gwendolyn Cook Murr. He worked as a welder for Piedmont Mechanical, SteelFab and Laws Mechanical. Mr. Murr was an avid supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. Mr. Murr was an avid hunter, especially rabbit hunting. He loved his family, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Mr. Murr was preceded in death by his father; sister, Doreen Murr Pate; maternal grandparents, Bishop and Dorothea Cook; and paternal grandparents, John and Annie Murr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the RRCTC welding program, c/o 319 College St., Roanoke, AL 36274.
