James Owen Newton, Jr., a cherished soul, was born on November 12, 1944, in Pender County, North Carolina. He departed this life peacefully at his residence on December 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rich in love and fond memories.
Known for his warm spirit and generous heart, James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He held a special place in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, not least of whom were his grandchildren, who were undoubtedly his proudest accomplishments. The joy he derived from spending quality time with his family is a testament to the deep bonds he fostered throughout his life. James cherished simple pleasures, often found watching his favorite westerns or in the kitchen, reminiscing about days when his health afforded him the energy to cook for those he loved.
James is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lois Newton, whose memory continued to resonate deeply within him until the end. Their love story remains a poignant chapter in the hearts of their family and friends, a reminder of the enduring power of companionship.
As we prepare to celebrate the life of this remarkable man, family and friends will gather at Lakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Atkinson, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at noon on December 19, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM, where those who knew and loved James will come together to honor his memory. Burial rites will take place at the Newton Family Cemetery in Willard, NC.
James Owen Newton, Jr. leaves behind not only a cherished memory but a legacy of love, warmth, and family unity that will continue to inspire all who were touched by his kindness. His absence will be profoundly felt, yet his spirit lives on in the laughter and love of his family—a living testament to the life he lived so well.
For all floral tributes, the family requests fresh flowers and potted plants in the red and white color scheme chosen to best represent Mr. James.
