James "Jim" Neyhart Sr., aged 77, of Camden, DE, returned home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2025. He was welcomed into eternal peace by his loving parents, Emerson C. Neyhart & Elizabeth Neyhart (Durban), and his two brothers, Emerson "Buddy" Neyhart Jr. and Harry Neyhart.
Jim was born on July 12, 1947, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, and graduated with pride from Hazleton High School in 1965. After graduation, Jim worked as a Draftsman for a local trucking company while studying architecture at Penn State's Hazleton Campus. When the Vietnam War intensified, Jim felt a strong calling to serve and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed Boot Camp at Parris Island in 1966 and courageously deployed to South Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment in early 1967. His time in combat was marked by courage and sacrifice, and he was honored with two Purple Hearts for the multiple injuries he sustained in battle.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Jim pursued his education at United Wesleyan College in Allentown, PA, earning a bachelor's degree in theology and his Teaching Degree in 1975. Shortly after graduating, and driven by his deep sense of faith, Jim took on the role of head pastor at the 7th St. Primitive Methodist Church in Shamokin, PA, and his passionate preaching inspired many until he decided to step down from the position in 1977. This change signified a fresh start for Jim as he transitioned from his role in the church to a civilian position at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA, where fate introduced him to Judy-the woman who would become the love of his life. Their relationship flourished, leading to a beautiful marriage, and they eventually settled in Camden, where Jim began working at the nearby Dover Air Force Base. Jim would thrive here and continue to build his successful career until his well-deserved retirement in 1996.
In retirement, Jim embraced his lifelong love of fishing and captained several charter boats along the picturesque coastlines of Delaware and Virginia for many rewarding years. When Jim decided to hang up his Captain's hat, he and Judy embraced a new adventure on the open road, traveling across the United States in their motorhome and creating treasured memories with family and friends at every stop. Jim also held a special place in his heart for his membership with and role within the New Harvest Baptist Church in Dover, and he forged many meaningful connections within its vibrant community. Jim's commitment to spreading the teachings of God remained a steadfast force within his life, and he approached his mission with zeal until the very end. Jim not only taught Sunday School and led Bible study groups, but he also occasionally delivered inspiring sermons whose messages truly resonated with the congregation, inspiring and guiding many and leaving a lasting impression on their lives.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Judy, and his two sons, James John Neyhart Jr. and Eric Dale. He also leaves behind, daughters Jennifer Seifert (Wade) and Johanna Austin, daughter-in-law Wanda Dale, and seven treasured grandchildren. Jim's passing leaves a profound void, felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
