James Nickerson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Nickerson, a cherished member of the Torrington community, who left us peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness on March 30, 2024.  Born on January 31, 1951, in Torrington, James was the beloved son of Charles Nickerson and Colleen (Connolly) Nickerson.  He lived a life marked by dedication to his lifelong career with CH Nickerson, his family, a passion for playing golf, and spending time with his dog, Gunner.

 

James leaves behind his wife Marlene, celebrating 35 years of marriage.   He was a pillar of support and inspiration for his daughters, Corrina and Ursula (Boston, MA), whose accomplishment filled him with immense pride.  James warmly embraced his very soon to be son-in-law, Bryan Holtzman, into the family, looking forward to their shared future.  He is also survived by his son, Christopher Nickerson (Breckenridge, CO).

 

His legacy is also carried on by his brothers, Brian Nickerson (Harwinton, CT) and Rich (Lori Shedd) Nickerson (Niantic, CT), and his sister, Elizabeth (Betty & Tom) Wagner (Phoenix, AZ).  James was predeceased by his brother, Tom Nickerson, whose memory remains a cherished part of the family’s history.  He will also be fondly remembered by his many nephews and nieces who cherished his presence in their lives.

 

James was a man of integrity, whose legacy of generosity, compassion, and humor will live on through his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

 

A service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m.  Burial will be private and at the family’s convenience.    The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association.

 

James’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Hartford Hospital for their care and compassion during his final days.  Your kindness is deeply appreciated and will always be remembered.  James’s life was not just about the journey he embarked on, but the love he spread and the joy he brought into our lives.   Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will be cherished forever in our hearts.
