James Nitsos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel on Mar. 4, 2026.
James (Jim) Gerald Nitsos, 90, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, after a short illness. Jim was born on November 7, 1935, in Sacramento, California, to James and Isabel Nitsos. After graduating from McClatchy High School in Sacramento, he attended UC Berkeley where he met his wife, Barbara Agnew. After graduating from CAL, Jim and Barbara married in 1957. They lived in Whittier, Alaska, where Jim was stationed on active duty with the Army. In 1962, Jim and Barbara and their two children settled in Walnut Creek, California, where Jim transitioned from active duty to working in finance for Chevron.

During retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling with his brothers, Richard and Ron, and their wives. When at home in Walnut Creek, Jim volunteered at the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord. Favorite past times included weekly lunches with his Chevron colleagues, attending San Francisco Symphony and Ballet performances, and traveling to Arizona for the Giants spring training.

As an Army veteran (Colonel, Army Reserves), proud Old Blue, long-time Chevron employee and avid traveler, Jim will be dearly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his son Kevin Nitsos (Christina), daughter Noelle McGlynn (Gary), three grandchildren – Connor Nitsos, Ryan McGlynn and Cate McGlynn, and his brother Ron Nitsos. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara, and older brother Richard.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Sunday, March 29th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Lafayette Park Hotel, 3287 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Lafayette, 94549. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery.
