Frank Mannix Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel on Feb. 12, 2026.
Frank Lee Mannix, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 30, 2026. Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1947, Frank grew up in the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1965. He attended San Diego State University for one year before transferring to Stanford University, where he graduated in 1969. Frank went on to attend medical school at the University of California, San Diego and then completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago.

Frank spent nearly 40 years in the field of emergency medicine, most notably with Tri-City Emergency Medical Group in Oceanside, CA, where he served as a physician and partner from 1980 until retirement in 2012. Over the course of his career, Frank saved or improved countless lives in the emergency room and cared for his patients with dedication and humility.

While medicine was Frank's career, music was his greatest passion. Frank became a talented bass guitarist in his early teens and was a founding member of the preeminent rock 'n' roll band in San Diego in the mid-1960's, The Accents. While Frank and other band members were in high school, The Accents released multiple successful records and would open for The Rolling Stones when they played in San Diego. Frank continued to play music recreationally throughout his life and always loved to share his knowledge of and passion for music with the people around him.

Frank touched many lives with both his heart and his mind during his 78 years, and he will be missed greatly. His legacy of love for his family and friends, decades of service in medicine, and extraordinary musical gift will continue to inspire those of us who were a part of his life.

A commemoration of Frank will be held at 10am on Sunday, March 8th at The Crossings at Carlsbad. He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
