James J. O'Brien

James J. O'Brien, 75, of Ringwood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026.

Born in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., James was the beloved son of the late Dorothy and John O'Brien. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Phyllis (née Dubin), and his brother John. He is survived by his loving siblings, Catherine and Brian; his devoted sons Thomas and Jeffrey (Gusta); his treasured grandchildren Molly and Jake; and his dear nieces, Kerry and Caroline.

James dedicated much of his professional life to education, serving as an administrator at Morris High School in the Bronx. He was deeply committed to supporting students and faculty alike, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and families throughout his career. His steady leadership, fairness, warmth and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew and worked with him.

Outside of work, James embraced life's simple joys. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, faithfully following every season and rarely missing a game. Summers held a special place in his heart, especially the time spent with family and friends on Lake George, where he created cherished memories filled with laughter, relaxation and togetherness.

A Celebration of Life will be held in August in Ticonderoga, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' honor to the ALS Association.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
