James (Jim) Gerald O'Connell Sr. passed away peacefully on July 15 in Simpsonville, SC.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul of Tarsus, Clinton Township, on July 22 at 10am with Fr. Jim Lopez officiating. Mr. O'Connell will lie instate in the church at 9:30am.
Jim was born in Detroit, MI, on November 30 to Samuel and Clara (Lamond) O'Connell. He was raised in Detroit with his three siblings and graduated High School from De La Salle. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude, and his three brothers, Thomas, Fritz, and Robert. His three children survive him: James Jr. (Pam), Drs. Shannon (Mike) Persaud and Greg (Linda). Grandchildren, Kelly (Mike), Sandy (Mark), Jamie, Melissa (Andy), Christopher (Jessica), Scott (Anna), and Sam. Great-grandchildren Jameson, Grace, Jakson, Noah, Cameron, Evelyn, Maddox, Logan, Oliver, and Parker.
He was an entrepreneur and loved to travel and play golf. He loved to be surrounded by family and friends. Jim will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his quiet strength, and his enduring kindness. His legacy of love, integrity, and faith will continue through all who knew and cherished him.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Tee of Greater Detroit.
