James "Jim" L. Ober, age 89 of Painted Post, New York passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 3, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on January 8, 1934 in Corning, New York the son of the late Edwin Ober, MD and Edith Lowe. Jim was a graduate of Vermont Academy. He married Rosemarie Ober (Gross). He was employed by the Ingersoll-Rand before his retirement.
Jim will be remembered for his love for his family. He enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, dancing, and singing with the Corning-Painted Post Barbershop Quartet. Jim was a devoted volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of the Painted Post Presbyterian Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his spouse, Rosemarie Ober; children: Kimberly S. (Samuel) DiGiacomo, and Alicia J. (Chuck Snickles) Ketchum; step-children: Jim (Carol) Conrad, Kathy (William) Stewart, Linda Stillman, Sally (Gary) Bohart, John Conrad, and Julie Conrad; grandchildren: Jessica and Caryn Ober, Anthony and Alyssa DiGiacomo and Shanyn Ketchum; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, William "Bill" Edwin Ober and his late wife, Bea Ober; siblings: Anne Frey, Mary Ellen Andrews and William Edwin Ober
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street Corning, New York 14830. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's name may be sent to: Corning Meals on Wheels, 144 Cedar Street, Corning, New York 14830
