James (Jim) Parks, 97 of Grandview Heights Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born July 6, 1926 in Medina, Ohio. Jim was a loving, father, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter Grace, son Tim, his grandchildren Kyle and Kirsty (Nathan), and several nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Joyce of 55 years, and his siblings Jack, Sarah and Phillip. Jim graduated with a BA in education from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He also was a Navy veteran where he proudly served for six years. Jim began his career as a high school math teacher in Butler, Ohio. After marrying and moving to Columbus, Jim worked as a research assistant at Battelle in Columbus for several years. Following his time at Battelle, Jim returned to teaching where he found his calling; teaching math to incarcerated students at various correctional institutions throughout Columbus. Jim was a member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where he served as an Elder, teacher and musician. In retirement Jim enjoyed numerous hobbies. He was an aviation and computer enthusiast and loved tutoring math students. The hobby he was most passionate about however, was anything barbershop. He was a chorus member of the Capital City Music (Chorus) Club, and sang baritone in his barbershop quartet, the Capital City Music Company, for more than 45 years. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 1:00pm at Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 NW Boulevard Columbus, Ohio 43212. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service and there will be a light luncheon following the service. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Jim's memory, to the Boulevard Presbyterian Church (in the check memo please indicate Choir Fund) or to the Next Generation Barbershop: www.harmonyfoundation.org/ngb-ot-donation. Thank you for your love and support from the Parks Family
