James Robert Penman passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the age of 83.
Jim was born on January 23, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to James and Rosemary (nee Jackson) Penman. Just a few short years after high school Jim found himself in the United States Army serving his country and receiving a Good Conduct Medal and Expert (Rifle M-14). On November 23, 1985, he married Elizabeth Genuit at Bethel Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shore and they shared 39 wonderful years together. Jim was a hard-working man and always provided for his family. He retired from Sheller Globe in 2000 where he worked as a sales representative. He loved his family and loved living life. Jim was happiest when he was riding one of his motorcycles. He and Betty would ride cross country on his motorcycle from Oregan to home and loved every minute of it. Jim was a hockey fanatic and even played until he was 75. When he wasn't riding his Harley or on the ice, you could find Jim on the fairway perfecting his long drive. He was kind and loving and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Jim "Jimmy" (Catherine) Penman; sister, Lori Penman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Jill Genuit; and nephews, Josh (Sarah), David (Melanie), Aaron (Kim), Dean (Lydia) and Kaleb. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Hauss and Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb and Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Chapel, 47120 Romeo Plank, Macomb Township. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Chapel. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Memorials would be appreciated to St. Peter Catholic Church, Mount Clemens.

I've known Jim for about 55 years, since I was a young kid. He was actually my godfather. Even when I was a grown adult he would joke that I had to respect him because he was still my godfather. He was as kind and funny as anyone could possibly be. When I was a little kid, I remember he would play baseball at our family's house with my brother, father and I. He was so much fun to be around and I will never forget all the good times we had with him. He was always cracking jokes and smiling. He will truly be missed. But the fond memories will last forever.
