JAMES AUGUSTUS PENNINGTON, JR., age 92, passed away on December 21, 2023 in Franklin, TN. Born August 19, 1931 in Nashville, TN to James A. and Mary Pennington, Sr. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Fleming Pennington. He is survived by his loving children, James F. Pennington, Nancy Z. Pennington and Williams S. Pennington; beloved grandchildren, J.T. Zelaska and Lynn Pennington.
James graduated from Baylor High School in Chattanooga and the University of Chattanooga where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He later became an Executive at Verizon Communications in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1991 with 33 years of service where he was responsible for operations with Non-Bell Telephone companies.
Also retired from the United States Army Reserve in 1983 with 30 years of service. He served in the Artillery with the famed 11th Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Europe. He attained the rank of Colonel.
He was a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. He was a proud to be a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, TN.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 2PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, 101 Legends Club Ln. The family will accept visitors from 1-2 prior to the service. Interment will follow at Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, TN.
