WADESBORO - On Saturday, September 21, 2025, Mr. James Stanley Ponds, 87, passed away peacefully at his home.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Gerald officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Stanley was born July 10, 1938 in Ansonville, NC and was a son of the late Fulton Delane Ponds and the late Mary Lula Jarrell Ponds Strawn. He worked for many years with Little Cotton Manufacturing and retired from working at Wadesboro City Pond for more than 20 years as manager.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Margaret Kelly Ponds; his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Donald Hooks of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Donna Hooks Martin of Lilesville and Kari Hooks Burris and husband, Ryan of Wadesboro; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa Martin, Wesley Martin, Kalib Burris and wife, Marissa, Kaylie burris, Koby Burris and Kinsley Burris; his great-granddaughter, Malina Bennett; his brothers, Henry Ponds of Polkton and Harold Ponds and wife, Carolyn of Peachland; his sister-in-law, Katherine Ponds of Lilesville and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Jesse Lee Ponds, Fletcher Ponds and Christine Jones.
