James F. Portzline, 76, of Mount Pleasant Mills, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 1, 2025, at his residence.

Born on December 4, 1948, in Sunbury, Northumberland County, he is a son of the late Kenneth and Mildred (Master) Portzline.

On August 27, 1982, he was married to his late wife, Deborah R. (Willow) Portzline with whom he was blessed to share over 38 years of marriage before her passing on January 12, 2021.

He is survived by: his four sons, Matthew L. Ferster and his wife Leah, Jamie A. Portzline and his wife Heather, Mark P. Ferster and his wife Lisa, and Jeremy L. Portzline and his wife Amber; ten grandchildren, Gavin Portzline, Ryland Portzline, Avery Portzline, Zayne Portzline, Naomi Wahidullah and husband Shahir, Luke Ferster, Jake Ferster, Leah Ferster, Kyle Ferster, and Brandon Ferster; two great grandchildren, Amina and Aela; and one sister, Linda Knouse and husband Ronald.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Dwayne; one brother, Roger Portzline; and one sister, Janet Engle and husband Clyde Engel.

After attending Selinsgrove High School, Jim served in the United States Army. He fought in Vietnam as a Sargent from 1968-1969 earning two purple hearts for his service.

James was employed at Wood Mode until he became the co-owner of Dutch Country Meats. Later in life, he also worked at American Holtzcraft.

He was an active member of Richfield Life Ministries Church where he was known as the Candy Man. He also held memberships at the American Legion Post 0364 in Liverpool where he was a member for over 50 years, a life member of the Richfield Sportsmen's Association, a member of the Oriental Valley Sportsmen's Association, and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

James enjoyed hunting, butchering, playing cards, cooking, four wheeling, camping, and will be remembered as a "jack of all trades," however, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the new Richfield Life Ministries Church, 53 Mill Road, Richfield with Pastor Aaron Benner officiating and where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Interment will be private.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial services on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Portzline's memory can be made to the Richfield Life Ministries Church, 167 Church St., Richfield, PA 17086.
