James J. Posch M.D.

Doctor JAMES J. POSCH, M.D., aged 95, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Beloved husband for 60 years to the late, Mary Lou Posch (nee Jones) of Mayfield Village, Ohio. Loving father of Jim Posch (Joyce Braverman) of Cleveland Heights, and Tom Posch (Laura Megan-Posch) of Owings, Maryland; dear grandfather of Ellen, Michelle, Zoe, Colin, Madelyn, and Alaina. Brother of the late, Edward F. Posch, Jr. (Sally Reynolds). Son of the late Edward F. Posch, Sr., and Josephine Grdina Posch who were both of Cleveland, Ohio.
Doctor Posch was a compassionate physician and native Greater Cleveland resident. He was a graduate of Euclid High School, John Carroll University, and the Marquette University School of Medicine (now Medical College of Wisconsin) (1955). He was a medical resident at the Saint Luke's Medical Center where he met and then married Mary Lou. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He commissioned in the Navy Medical Corps with assignment to Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California, for three years. After living in Laguna Beach, California, he returned to Greater Cleveland to practice pediatrics in Euclid and then Mayfield Heights. Doctor Posch was a founding physician of Hillcrest Pediatrics. He was a member of the medical staffs of Saint Luke's, Euclid General, University Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospitals, and also of Hillcrest Hospital from 1972 to 2003, where he was Chief of the Pediatrics Division (1979–1997), and Chief of the Medical Staff (1981).
He was a member in good standing of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland, the Northern Ohio Medical Association, and the Pasteur Club. After a life dedicated to healing and serving others Doctor Posch retired in 2003. He enjoyed traveling with his family, and sailing and snow skiing with his sons. A lifelong learner and avid reader, he cherished visiting the Mayfield Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, and his care team from Cleveland Clinic Hospice and the Ashton of Mayfield Heights. A special thanks to Desiree for her kindness, loving care, and friendship. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
