James Ragain Obituary

James "Jim" Edwin Ragain, age 94, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on August 25, 2025. Born on December 8, 1930, in Marionville, Missouri, Jim was the beloved son of James Edwin and Cora Ethel (Ayers) Ragain.

On June 17, 1950, Jim married the love of his life, Barbara "Bobbie" Alice Adams, in the home of their pastor, Reverend Balliet. Together, they shared 75 beautiful years of marriage, filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.

Jim's passion for speed began early, spending countless hours at the dirt track on the north side of Springfield, Missouri. His love for racing and fast cars never faded. He could often be found in his garage, joyfully tinkering with his cherished Volkswagen Beetles. Known for his quick wit and infectious laughter, Jim had a gift for bringing joy to those around him.

He dedicated 36 years of service to the City Utilities transportation department, where his work ethic and commitment left a lasting impact. Upon retirement, Jim and Bobbie embraced their golden years with enthusiasm, traveling the world and fulfilling their bucket list dreams.

A man of deep faith, Jim was a longtime member of Central Assembly of God, where he and Bobbie worshipped for many decades. His favorite scripture, 2 Timothy 1:7, reflected his spirit: "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind."

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Bobbie Ragain; and their four sons: James "Mike" Ragain (Linda), Gary Ragain (Paula), Martin "Ed" Ragain (Marguerite), and John Ragain (Theressa). He leaves behind a legacy of love through 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Cora Faye and Mary; brother Gerald; and grandsons Sean Ragain and Gabriel Ragain.

A visitation will be held at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel on Friday, August 29th. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, August 30th at Central Assembly of God.

Jim's life was a testament to joy, faith, and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
