James K Ramsey Sr. passed away on January 13, 2025 at age 89. He was a man of faith who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his sister (Jan Bowers & her husband Gordie), children (Terri Ramsey-Barker, and James K Ramsey Jr. & his wife Sonya), grandchildren (Don Gruel & his wife Noel Holland, James Barker & his wife Laura, and Daniel Ramsey), 2 great-grand-daughters (Riley Barker & Lhotse Barker), friends, and relatives. Jim, as he was known, was born on May 27th, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Beaufort in 1952 and lived his life in the Lowcountry. He worked for United Telephone Company from 1956 until his retirement 39 years later. He loved the outdoors and cherished his time shrimping and fishing from Beaufort's waters and beaches. He loved sports and coached numerous Dixie Youth Baseball & Softball teams in Beaufort over the years. Most of all, he loved his family. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Sauls Ramsey, who passed away in 2011. A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 18 at 1:30pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:30pm in the Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel with entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Cornerstone Christian Church.

My greatest memory of Mr. Ramsey was his honesty. He was also my softball coach when I was 9 years old. When he said Run, I ran. His appearance demonstrated respect and I definitely respected him. As he grew older, I saw the sweet and dry humor, which I loved very much. I know now He is in Heaven with his beautiful wife and is at peace with her and our Heavenly Father. We will all miss him deeply. Now we are praying for his daughter Teri and son Jimbo to have the peace that surpasses all understanding. Rhett and I Love you all.
