James Rawson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lohr & Barb Funeral Home - Elkins on Feb. 21, 2025.
Beverly resident James W. Rawson, 81, was born in Gates Mills, Ohio to parents James and Ellen (Beaver) Rawson and died in Maryland with family nearby. He is survived by long-time companion Mille Hann, his son and daughter-in law Jim and Cheryl Rawson, his stepdaughter and son-in-law Kristin Davies James and Stu James, his stepson and daughter-in law Drew and Carrie Davies and grandchildren Lauren, Whitney, Kade, Emma, Addison and Elizabeth. His sister Nancy Rawson Hinrichs preceded him in death.
Jim attended West Virginia University where he received a Master's degree in Wildlife Management. He spent the majority of his career working as a biologist for the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and later for the Canaan Valley Institute. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and a wide variety of outdoor activities and could often be found enjoying the land he worked so hard to protect.
Jim loved training, bird hunting and spending time with his many dogs over the years. He dedicated countless hours to his most recent companion, Fanny, and the many others before her. He was actively involved with the Elkins chapter of Ducks Unlimited, serving on committees and organizing events. A memorial service will take place in the Elkins area this summer.

Jimmy was my best buddy growing up, we shared over 73 years of adventures; hunting, fishing, trapping and just enjoying the outdoors. He dedicated his career to preserving wildlife and habitat in West Virginia.
His parents were like second parents to me and we spent hours playing badminton and enjoying cook outs. To say that I will miss him is an understatement. May he rest in peace.
