James Reed Obituary

James Reed
Born: April 22, 1936
Died: July 17, 2025
James Richard Reed, our beloved father, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home in Woodstock, IL with his children at his side. Born April 22, 1936 in Summerfield, Ohio. Jim spoke fondly of the country and farm life that surrounded him as a child. Jim was the son of Ralph and Hilda Reed. The family moved to Lakemore, OH where Jim attended school in Springfield Township. He was involved in sports and loved hunting and fishing with his brother Joe from a young age. Jim met June Brotherton Reed, the love of his life in high school and dated for several years, marrying June the day he graduated from Kent State University on August 23, 1958. They were blessed to be married for 57 years and were best friends. Jim and June resided predominantly in the McHenry County area of IL and their friendships grew in numbers over the years. Jim and June were long standing members of First Church of Crystal Lake. The faith they embraced throughout their lives supported their way of living with deep love and devotion to their family and to their friends.
Jim was in sales and sales management over his 40+ years in business. He loved interacting with people from all walks of life in work as well as through his personal interests. In his years of retirement he was involved in the Enterprise Club and enjoyed getting together with his friends at his favorite local small town establishments. Jim and June spent as much time as he could in Door County, WI visiting with family and friends. He loved his fishing trips to the Outer Banks, N.C. where he and family members fished off the docks of Nags Head. Jim is survived by son Scott Reed(Leza), son Jeff Reed (Bridgette), daughter Jill (Larry Farino) and daughter Julie Reed; grandchildren Sierra (Jared Georgakopoulos), Nash Reed, Anthony, Nicholas and Tyler Farino; sister in law Karen and husband Roger Plaster, sister in law Marianne Brotherton and a large loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife June, brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Patricia Reed, brother-in-law David Brotherton, nephew Craig Reed and niece Lisa Reed. It would be remiss not to mention his loving dog and companion Gracie Girl.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 5:00-8:00pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Avenue, State Highway 176, Crystal Lake, IL. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2:00pm, at the First Church of Crystal Lake, 236 W. Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. There will also be a reception/celebration of life at Woodstock Country Club, at 5:00pm in Woodstock, IL, following the service.

Earlier today

Jim and June were neighbors and friends in Crystal Lake and they were great people. Terry fished with Jim and thought he was a terrific fellow. Terry died March of 2024 so I will remember Jim (and June) in my heart moving forward. Hopefully they wull get together in Heaven. Linda Anderson
