James Reedy Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 13, 2025.
James Bruce "Jim" Reedy, Jr., a man whose life was marked by dedication, service, and the quiet strength of character, passed away on November 7, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 71. Born on January 29, 1954, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Jim's life journey was one of purpose and resilience.
Jim proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran of the United States Navy, exemplifying commitment and honor throughout his service. His naval career laid a foundation of discipline and duty that he carried into his later endeavors. After leaving the military, Jim shared his wealth of knowledge as a home inspector, where his meticulous attention to detail and integrity earned him the trust and respect of many clients. In retirement, he became an instructor at Tidewater Tech, where he inspired countless students with his passion for the trades, his expertise in fixing things, and his unwavering belief in the power of hands-on learning. Jim's family meant everything to him. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Beverly Reedy Sr., his son, Jason Reedy, and father-in-law, Carl Olsen. Jim is survived by his wife, Terri Reedy; his son, Cameron, fiancée, Audrey and grandson, Bryson Reedy. He also leaves behind his daughter, Sydney, and son-in-law, Tony, who are expecting Jim's second grandson, Adler Crew White.Jim is also survived by his sisters, Fern (and her husband, Ron Smith) and Nancy (and her husband, Roger Johnson), as well as his brothers, Rick (and his wife, Robin) and Alan (and his wife, Amy). He is fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, Janice Olsen, along with numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Additionally, we cannot forget his beloved furry daughter, Harper, and his cherished furry granddaughters, Hatteras, Jaycee, Minnow, and Maggie, whom he loved dearly. Jim was also loved by many friends.
Though we mourn the loss of Jim's presence, we celebrate the legacy of strength and kindness he leaves behind. He will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory at a date and time to be determined. In the lives he touched and the hearts he left full, Jim's spirit endures, reminding us all that a life of service and integrity is a life well-lived.
