James Douglas "Doug" Reese, age 72, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Born in Anniston, Alabama, Doug was a man of steady faith, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family and country. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 24 years, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His life reflected the values he held dear-loyalty, discipline, and honor. Doug had a deep love for the military, and his dedication to service and to the nation he served remained a defining part of who he was. Doug also had a passion for fishing, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, rooting for the Minnesota Vikings, and making people laugh with his perfectly timed jokes. But above all, he loved Jesus. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he found great joy in sharing that love with others. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Reese; his children, James Reese (Russ), Angela Burgess (Mike), and Christopher Reese (Amanda); his stepchildren, Isaac Burchfield (Angueliz) and Lizzie Graham (Ashton); his siblings, Thomas Reese (Gielda) and Kathy Chambers (Doyle); his grandchildren, Noah Reese and Alyssa Sims; and his step-grandchildren, Addison Burchfield, David Burchfield, Micah Burgess, Lily Burgess, and Riley Hicks. He is also survived by Rebecca Reese, mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, JD and Ruth Reese, and his brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Reese. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville, Tennessee. A military service and funeral will follow from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., with full military honors. Rev. Jonas Turpin will officiate. Doug will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. Doug's family finds peace in knowing he is now at rest, and they rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
