I will never forget the first time I met Coach James Reinebold. I was in middle school playing a game when he came up to me and said "Son, if you're going to play for me, you're going to have to give up that number". I had no idea who this guy was and what he was saying. My middle school coach soon informed me about who this guy was and what he was saying. Obviously, I gave up my number when I played for coach. Sincerely, Tony (Radar) Radecki

Joel and his family my thoughts and prayers go out to you in the passing of your Father. Your Father was always a larger than life figure and it was an honor to know him. We have been friends for over 40 years and I'll always remember the time you and your Father came to Country Stadium to see your Red Sox play my Brewer's. I'm very proud of you and your career at Clay High School and I know our Father's are looking down with smiles on their faces because Spring Training is just around the corner. Baseball renews hope and dreams of our childhood and times cherished with our Fathers. You are a great man and so was your Father . God bless you and your family.

I never personally met Coach, however, he still had an effect on my life as a native of South Bend. He coached my brother at Greene High School, Gil Reed. His name would come up nearly every year of my life, so I had to learn more about him. As a result I was inspired to coach local softball. Further, I became an avid proponent of the game because of him. I became a commissioner of softball in South Bend and later for the senior league in Mishawaka.
To me his greatness is proven right here in the condolences in that I have ties to at least three other writers here. In fact I have coached one of the players he had coached, Howie Emmons.
I have to think there is baseball in heaven but if I am wrong then Coach Jim will get it started for the rest of us to follow.
Rest in peace Coach Jim

Dear Mrs. Reinebold and Family:

I was sad to hear of the passing of Coach. He was a part of so many lives, including my own. My dream growing up was to one day play baseball for Clay High School and Coach Reinebold. It was an honor when the dream finally came true. I saw coach one day a couple of years ago, and I remember us having a wonderful conversation. I was also very blessed to have him come to the visitation for my dad's passing. Two men who had the greatest impact on my life. Am keeping all of you in my prayers. God bless. David Hankins

Helping to shape players as well as encourage them to be better people is what coaching is all about and Jim certainly epitomized that. We felt honored to have known him, see him in action and grateful for the invaluable guidance he gave our son. We offer our deepest condolences to the family, especially Evelyn and Joel whom we were privileged to get to know. Howie and Becky Emmons

I played for Coach Reinebold in the late 50's at Greene Twp. H.S. He and Evie paid a surprise visit to my retirement celebration from teaching at Wakarusa Middle School. He was the first man in my life to treat me with respect and instill in me a sense of value as a person. We were close friends from the high school years to this present time. God bless you and your family and thank you for all you did for me.
Love you, Gil

Jim and Evie gave me the great opportunity to play serious baseball with a great bunch of guys from 1957 thru 1960 for the South Bend Travelers (Sherman's Cleaners), playing in such places as Ft. Knox, Michigan State Prison and Chunky, Mississippi. Jim even coached a men's league team I played for in the 90's giving me some great pointers on infield positioning. I remember being particularly honored when he got thrown out of a couple games and turned the managing of the team over to me. His love and devotion to the game was special.

I was a manager for Coach (Clay class 1974)...what a great experience to be a part of a first class organization. Coach once told us managers that if his players were as dedicated as us managers we would win the state championship every year. That stayed with me my entire life...that it meant everyone has an important role in an organization

Although Marie and I had no family that played for "4", we always felt we were part of the team. 4 molded a lot of young men who were a lot better off after being around him.

Our prayers are with all of you, wish we could be at the ballpark after the services.

I played baseball for coach Reinebold in the mid 70's at Clay High School. Coach was more than an icon to me. True, he was a great baseball coach for many years and led my generation to the semi-state; however, he was much more than a baseball coach icon to me. I can honestly say that if it were not for coach Reinebold, I would not be where I am today in my life. Coach Reinebold made me a co-captain for my senior year in high school; not because of my talent, but because he knew it would be a key leadership feature that would help me be accepted to the US Coast Guard Academy; it worked. Coach Reinebold also taught me about "MENTAL TOUGHNESS" which became a tremendous asset throughout my life; not only in college sports/academics but also in my professional business career. In my mind, I can still him saying in a very loud voice (not yelling): "Focus on what your doing Radecki. Focus. Focus. Focus. If you're not mentally tough, you're weak. Focus. Focus. Focus". THANK YOU coach Reinebold. My best wishes and prayers go out to coach's family and friends. Rest in peace coach; rest in peace.
