Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lighthouse Family Mortuary - Greeley on Mar. 12, 2026.
James Marion Richardson III, lovingly known as Jim, passed away on March 10, 2026, after a courageous six-year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, ingenuity, and passion that will live on in all who knew him.
Jim was the beloved husband of Cindi Richardson, with whom he shared 50 beautiful years together, including 46 years of marriage. Their life together was one of true partnership-building not only a family, but a legacy of businesses, homes, and lasting memories side by side.
He was a proud and devoted father to his two daughters, Kristin Joy Marcove and Lindsey Jean Egelko. Jim loved being "Papa" to his three cherished grandchildren: Sienna Milan Marcove, Zaden James Marcove, and Ezra James Egelko. He loved his family deeply and took immense pride in each of them.
Jim was the eldest of five children, born to James Marion Richardson Jr. and Mary Janet Richardson. He is survived by his siblings Julie Evans (and her husband Steve Evans), Jennifer Vanian, and Jeff Richardson (and his wife Rashelle Richardson). He was preceded in death by his brother John Richardson. He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Jim built an extraordinary life through hard work, intelligence, and determination. He began his career with his mechanic shop, Groucho's Auto Service & Repair, where his natural ability to fix anything quickly became evident. After marrying Cindi, he founded A-1 Quality Electric, which grew into a highly respected and successful electrical company specializing in new home construction and commercial projects.
Together, Jim and Cindi built an impressive portfolio of businesses and investments, including Superior Car Wash and numerous rental properties. With unmatched dedication, they personally renovated, leased, managed, and sold their properties-creating not just financial success, but a life built on teamwork and resilience.
While his business accomplishments were remarkable, Jim's greatest passion was aviation. He loved everything about flying-the mechanics, the community, and the unmatched freedom of being in the sky. He was a well-known and respected figure in the Northern Colorado aviation community, holding his light sport pilot license and serving for many years as president of both the local Ultralight Club and his Remote Control Airplane Club.
Over 40 years ago, Jim founded "Things With Wings," an airplane hobby store that grew into a beloved destination for aviation enthusiasts from across the country. Through this business, he not only shared his passion, but built a community.
Jim was larger than life. He had a commanding presence in any room, a sharp wit, and a gift for humor that brought joy to those around him. His endless knowledge, quick jokes, and genuine personality made him unforgettable.
Above all, Jim was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend. His legacy is one of hard work, curiosity, laughter, and deep love for his family.
In lieu of a funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held on May 23rd, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at his private airplane field. Those who would like to attend are invited to contact Cindi or Lindsey for more information.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
