James Rodney Robbins, age 68, of Union Mills, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024 at home. He
was born in McDowell County on November 30, 1955 to the late James Lawrence Robbins and
Kereda McIntosh Robbins. He was a 1974 graduate of McDowell High School.

Rodney was known as a hard-working farmer. He raised beef cows, hay, row crops and learned
the intricacies of molasses making from the best there was--his father-in-law. He enjoyed
serving on the Rutherford County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He loved baseball and
played from Little League up through high school on the Glenwood High team. He continued
that love of ball by coaching Little League and playing Church League softball. Rodney enjoyed
water-skiing as a young man and continued his love of the water through the years with fishing,
landing two special fishing friends along with many bass. He also loved riding his Harley
Davidsons and playing pool with his friends. He retired from the Sugar Hill-Montford Cove Fire
Dept. where he served from its early years. He was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge
where he met many people who became close friends. He was of the Baptist faith and recently
moved his letter to Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale.

He is survived by his wife Donna Hemphill Robbins; one son, James Robbins; one
granddaughter Sadie Robbins and a sister Laura Horne.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 3:00p.m. at the Beam
Celebration Center in Marion with Dr. Bruce Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends
from 1:30 – 3:00 prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Montford Cove Baptist Church
following the service.
