James Luther Robinson, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2026, in
Sykesville, Maryland. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Margaret (Margie), his children Jamie, Andrea (Joe), and Jesse (Erin), his seven grandchildren Nathaniel, Mackenzie and Lauren Schreyer and Virginia, Erwin, Beau and Sutton Robinson, his siblings Larry (Pam) and Harry (Robbie) Robinson and his sister-in-law Dorothy Harvey and nephew Brent Harvey. James was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Aura Webb, sister-in-law Florence Marcey, niece Jennifer Doyle, and parents Harry Robinson and Bessie Fisher.
James was born in Baltimore City on May 24, 1952, to Harry Robinson and Bessie Fisher. He attended Polytechnic High School class of '70. After high school he enlisted in the military. He entered the Air Force in 1970 and was sent off to Vietnam. While in the military he married his sweetheart Margie on June 30, 1972. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1976. James along with his wife and kids, lived in Catonsville. After Vietnam he began working as a civil engineer for the government.
James was an avid hunter and enjoyed yearly trips to Paw Paw, West Virginia to hunt with his longtime friend Basil. He began to volunteer at the church his children attended St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. He became interested in umpiring baseball and became a professional umpire as a side job for fun. He ultimately became a founding member of the Christian Athletic Association St. Timothy's Division and sat on the board of directors for quite a few years. All while enjoying umpiring little league games.
In 1993 James packed up the family and moved to
Sykesville, Maryland where he set his final roots. He continued to umpire and ultimately running the umpires for Sykesville little league. He was often seen watching his son Jesse play and got the pleasure of teaching Jesse to umpire also. James loved cars, trucks and Harley motorcycles. And he often attended bike weeks in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Ocean City, Maryland with his son Jamie.
One of James and Margie's favorite places to vacation was old town Williamsburg. They were blessed to go there on a trip for their 30th wedding anniversary, a few other times and they were planning to go back this summer.
James loved on his grandkids, spoiling them whenever he could. He had a special bond with his granddaughter Mackenzie. They were often found joking about her being the favorite grandchild. And his granddaughter Lauren always had a cold diet Pepsi waiting for him when he was coming to visit.
Later James was member of the National League of POW/MIA Families and a member of the American Legion Sykesville Memorial Post 223.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. And in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the POW/MIA foundation. pow-miafamilies.org
