James Evans Rowe

James Evans Rowe, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on March 6, 1934, in New York, New York. He was the youngest son of six children born to James Aubrey Rowe and Melrose Ford. Raised in East Harlem, James enjoyed spending time with his siblings and playing stickball with friends.

In 1947, James accepted Christ at Church of the Savior Methodist Church in New York City, beginning a lifelong foundation of faith. He graduated from Food Trades Vocational High School in 1952. A few years later, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963 as a Powerman, earning the rank of Private.

On September 1, 1963, James married the love of his life, Edith Harrell. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Janene, Arlette, and Kysha. Together they built a loving home on Long Island, New York, where they raised their family. James was a devoted family man and a dedicated provider, often working long hours to ensure his family was well cared for.

Throughout his life, James had several professions, including baker, carpenter, and building maintenance worker. However, his most notable career was as a distributor and route owner for 7UP, a role he proudly held for decades. During this time, he received numerous awards and recognition for his hard work and dedication. Some of his children's fondest memories are of riding along with him and helping out on his route, sharing laughter and lessons along the way.

James was affectionately known by many names - Pookie, Rowe, Daddy, Jimmy Rowe, Brother, Uncle Jim Dandy, Unc, Daddy Rowe, Poppa Rowe, and Peepa. He had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything, often demonstrating what his family lovingly described as "MacGyver-like" skills. Known for his quick wit and gift for storytelling, friends would often introduce him by saying, "This is Jimmy Rowe - he talks more 'poop' than a radio and a radio is never off." His stories, humor, and warmth brought joy to everyone around him. Some of his favorite sayings were "The goal is to get there.", "Love you bye" and "Standing In There". When you said "Hi" to him, he would respond with "wish I was". In his spare time, James enjoyed cycling, carpentry, photography, and videography, as well as spending time with fellow members of the Amityville Rod & Gun Club and his neighbors at American Jefferson Estates.

After retirement, James and Edith relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. There, he became a dedicated member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he faithfully served on the kitchen team and visitation team, while also helping maintain the church grounds. His service reflected his generous spirit and unwavering commitment to others. In his later years, James lived in Mableton, Georgia, with his daughter Arlette and son-in-law Roderick, where he was surrounded by the love and care of family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Melrose; his oldest daughter, Janene; and his five siblings: Elaine, Edgar, Harold, Albert, and Evelyn. Those who will continue to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 62 years, Edith; his daughters Arlette (Roderick) and Kysha (Frankie); his grandchildren Elyse, Alexander, and Imani; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though he is no longer physically with us, the love, wisdom, and memories he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to know him. His life was a testament to faith and devotion to family.
