James Runyan passed away on January 7, 2026, in Wildomar, California, following a brief illness. He was 59 years old.

Jim was born on January 20, 1966, in Anaheim, California, to Ilard and Carol Runyan. He grew up in Santa Ana, CA where he built lifelong friendships and developed passions that stayed with him throughout his life.

A true motorcycle enthusiast, Jim had a lifelong love of motorcycles and was an avid road racer. Riding was more than a hobby, it was part of who he was, bringing him freedom, excitement, and a deep sense of joy.

In 1989 The Cycle City team of Jim Runyan, Miles Mothershead, Brent Meacham and Doug Toland scored the win at the final Six hour endurance race of this season hosted by ARRA at Willow Springs International Raceway. With just five minutes left in the race, Toland riding Jim’s Honda Hurricane for Cycle City, felt no threat from BMR’s last rider, Graves. The Code Three Racing team is an interesting bunch, considering the fact that they are all Policemen. However, speeding was not to be to their advantage and though they made a gallant effort, the win would be for the pedestrians. ”Courtesy of Cycle News September 27, 1989.”

James was a devoted and loving presence in the lives of his nephews, Adam and Wayne Runyan, whom he cared for as if he were their father. His guidance, humor, and steady support left a lasting impact on them.

He was also a loyal sports fan, with a special devotion to the Denver Broncos, cheering them on through every season.

He had several friends from Nos Immortalis and Outlaw Justice gaming guilds, who not only enjoyed his company but his antics. He was known as Maulshee.

James was preceded in death by his father, Ilard Runyan, and his stepmother, Phylis Runyan.

He is survived by his Mother Carol Runyan, Sister Michele Runyan, nephews Adam and Wayne Runyan; Aunt Mary Goodwin and numerous cousins and their children who will miss him dearly.

He held fond memories of trips to Utah during his younger years, experiences he often reflected on with happiness. James will be remembered for his passion for life, his love of motorcycles, his dedication to family, his love for his pets, and the quiet strength he brought to those who knew him.
