James Rudolph "Chip" Saunders, Jr. passed Sunday, August 17, 2025, at his home in Eula. No services are scheduled at this time.

Chip was born February 13,1968, at Maxwell AFB Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, to James Rudolph and Jill (Hardwick) Saunders. The family then lived in Winder, Georgia for 11 years before his parents divorced, and Jill and the children moved to Abilene. Chip graduated from Wylie High School, enjoyed showing American Quarter Horses, and worked as the Broodmare Barn Manager at a racehorse farm in Potosi until he was seriously injured in a work-related accident and advised to accept permanent disability at the age of 19. He preferred to work, and did so at a veterinarian's office in Abilene, an exotic game ranch, and Squares Bar-B-Q, until 11 surgeries due to his injury left him unable to continue working and he was forced to retire at age 31. He was a big fan of the NRA his entire life.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jill and Duane Allen of Eula; his sister, Kelly Herdman and husband Shawn of Farmersville; his aunt Jamie Villegas of Conroe; and two uncles, Renny Hardwick and wife Martha of Coldspring, and Maurice Hardwick of Roberta, Georgia.

Chip was preceded in death by his father, James Rudolph Saunders, Sr. of Winder, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation in Chip's memory to your local ASPCA or the charity of your choice.
